The Nanyang Judo Club has achieved a consistent track record of winning the championship title at the National School Games (NSG) over the years. We attribute this to our rigorous training sessions as well as the dedication of our members to the sport.
During the weekly training sessions, we focus on the necessary Judo techniques in-depth and also on physical conditioning. We learn how to perform Judo throws and other important ground-work techniques.
On and off the mat, we are a close-knit CCA which has an emphasis on mutual respect and self-discipline. We train hard, but we also play hard.
Judo helps a person build strength, flexibility, agility, speed, balance and endurance, making it an all-rounded dynamic sport. Due to its tacit nature, a Judoka develops faster reaction time and better coordination through the use of attack and defensive techniques.
Judo at NYGH is not just a sport or a martial arts club, but a community. We strive to create a caring and conducive learning environment that can help individuals achieve their fitness goals at their own pace. Judo builds character through the understanding of the sport and its rigorous practice. All Judokas are taught to respect one another and to be responsible for each other’s safety.
All Secondary One students will be given special attention in the learning of basics, such as fundamental throws and break-falls. They will be afforded ample practice before being allowed to join the seniors, to ensure their safety.
Secondary One students will attend training sessions twice a week in Term 1. They will begin to attend sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from Term 2 onwards. There will be competent and experienced coaches to supervise our training at every training session.
Information on our coaches:
Mr Tang Soon Onn (South-East Asian Games gold medalist, current coach of Judo National Team)
Ms Tang Youhui (licensed under International Judo Coaching and referee under Judo Union of Asia)
Ms Tang Jingfang (alumnus of NYGH and HCI, represented Singapore in Youth Olympic Games, in current Judo National Team)
There will be training camps during the March, June and November holidays. These are compulsory for the Judokas to attend. External Judo experts may be invited to provide a more rigorous understanding of the sport.
The Nanyang Judo Club prides itself in its team of seniors who are active members of the Singapore Youth Team. We are proud that some seniors have represented Singapore in various overseas tournaments. It is our aim to nurture Judokas in contributing towards the local Judo community and giving back to the nation.
We welcome new Judokas with a can-do attitude and good character. Join our Judo family today!
