Chih-Liang Julian Liu

Biography

Chih-Liang (Julian) Liu is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Business and Management (IBM) at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU). Julian earned his Ph.D. in Accounting from National Taiwan University (NTU).  

Julian's research interests focus on the intersection of financial accounting and corporate finance. Specifically, corporate finance covers AI activities, banks, CFO connections, customer-supplier relationships, diversification, FinTech, IPOs, innovation, peer effects, and emerging topics in recent financial journals. Financial accounting includes auditor quality, corporate governance, carbon emissions disclosure, ESG disclosure, internal control, investment efficiency, labor investment, managerial characteristics, non-GAAP disclosures, and sustainable accounting.

Julian's research has been published in premier academic journals, including Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Accounting Horizons, Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting and Economics, Applied Economics, British Accounting Review, Corporate Governance: An International Review, European Accounting Review, European Journal of Finance, International Review of Economics and Finance, International Journal of Production Research, Journal of Accounting Review, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Managerial Auditing Journal, Production Planning & Control, Research in International Business and Finance, and Taiwan Accounting Review. 

Julian has served as an Associate Editor of Corporate Management Review and as a reviewer for journals including Accounting and Finance, Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting and Economics, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, British Accounting Review, Corporate Governance: An International Review, International Review of Financial Analysis, and Research in International Business and Finance, as well as for major conferences. 

At IBM, Julian has taught financial and accounting courses to MBA, part-time MBA, and PhD students. Julian has received numerous research awards, including the Gold Medal Award at the 14th NFCPAA Award (2026), the Excellent Award at the 14th UMC Management Thesis Award  (2024), the IIA Lin Ping Tsang Thesis Award (2023), the Best Paper Award at the 2023 Win JCA Academic Paper Awards and Conference, and the Best Paper Award at the Taiwan Accounting Association (TAA) Annual Conference (2022, 2021, 2019).
