Thank you for taking the time to visit my parent resources page. Below you will find information about our day and what your child is learning at school.
We are currently using Journeys to teach language arts. Journeys is a wonderful resource and your child will love the selections we will read this year. We will read one story per week and then take the comprehension assessment on that story. It is helpful to have your child reread or listen to the story again sometime during the week, which can be accessed from the student resources page. In addition, your child will have spelling words to practice each week. This is new this year, so practicing your child's spelling words will help greatly. The spelling words will be placed in your child's agenda, along with some ideas to practice them each night. We will also be practicing RACES while we write in response to reading. RACES stands for R - restate the question, A - answer the question, C - cite evidence, E - explain, and S - summarize (this step is optional) To the right is a quick video to explain each step of RACES.
Our Math curriculum is Eureka Math. This math program will prepare your child with in-depth knowledge in each area of the curriculum. If your child needs help completing the math homework, please check the student resources page for a step-by-step tutorial. Also, please have your child practice his or her math facts. Your child can practice these on Xtra Math, found in the student resources section.
I use ClassDojo to communicate with parents. Please connect to our classroom so you can stay informed on what your child is doing at school. During an activity, I will post pictures and/or a caption of what we are doing that day to our story. I also award Dojo points throughout the day for behavior. Last, I can send or receive messages through ClassDojo. It is an awesome resource and I find parents think so too!
