Principal's Note:
It's been a busy time at N.M.S. Not only are the bulldozers and excavators making our walls and floors shake but we're getting ready for Spring Break and our mandatory state assessments (iLearn). I'm proud of how our students and teachers have managed the chaos as we look forward to the amazing facilities that are being constructed. Please scroll through the pictures below to see what is in store.
This month I presented our school's data at the school board meeting. You can check out the presentation yourself by clicking here and seeing how NMS compares to other schools in our area: https://prezi.com/view/0tu3Ug4xtXuMdUR3WDjc/
As we approach testing season it is extremely important to be aware of our iLearn testing dates . Please get a good night's rest, eat breakfast, and be at school on-time.
Testing Dates:
April 16-17
April 23-24 (25th if necessary)
Enjoy Spring Break!

Principal N.M.S.
Message from Assistant Principal Mr. Ward:
After we return from Spring Break I will begin meeting with current 7th grade students for scheduling next year. If you take the following classes in 8th grade they will count towards HS credit: Spanish1, German1, Ag, PE/Health, Algebra1, and Robotics. Students earning high-school level academic credits are more likely to excel in advanced high school courses, graduate high-school, and enroll in post-secondary education.
Also, there are a few legislative updates from the state regarding schools. You can view them here.
Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions or concerns involving your child. I can be reached at
ryan.ward@nwsc.k12.in.us or my ext.3014.
Jennifer Smalley is our 8th Grade Team Leader. If you have specific questions about 8th grade academics/grades/etc. please email jennifer.smalley@nwsc.k12.in.us
Lorri Schuler is our 7th grade Team Leader. If you have questions about 7th grade academics/grades/etc. please email lorri.schuler@nwsc.k12.in.us
7th Grade will be visiting I.U.K. March 21-22nd to learn about post secondary opportunities. Students will be back in time for lunch. Students in Bowen/Shrock/Wise's Homerooms will visit on Thursday. Schuler/Sinnamon/Herrema's homerooms will visit on Friday.
Reminder
Contact our School Nurse if you have questions/immunization updates at ext: 3011
jodi.galbraith@nwsc.k12.in.us or call the school.
We ask that if your child is not feeling well at school they should ask to see our school nurse. We've had incidents where a parent has come to check out a student for illness and no one has known they weren't feeling well. Students who go home and are not sick will be unexcused. We appreciate your support and understanding.
Forms are available in the office:
May 6-10th
3:30-4:15
4:15-5pm
5-5:45pm IF the first 2 spots fill up.
Cost is $40 per session per swimmer. Out of district and non-school age children are welcome. Must be potty trained.
Any Questions? Contact: donita.walters@nwsc.k12.in.us
Lessons will be offered again in September.

I like Dad Jokes. For instance, what type of Dog keeps the best time? A Watchdog!
I have to take a test to be a certified support animal. Teachers have to take tests to be certified teachers. You will have to take a test to get a drivers license. Tests are a part of life. Tests can be hard, but you can make it easier by being prepared! Follow these tips!
Get Plenty of Sleep: Students who have proper rest usually recall information better than those who do not.
Eat nutritious foods: Proper foods can give you energy and make you feel refreshed. Eat Breakfast every day!
Make your bed in the morning: It sounds silly but accomplishing a small task to start the day can make you feel productive, accomplished, and confident.
Exercise: Burn off that nervousness and anxiety.
Do Something For You!: Whether you enjoy going to the movies, hiking, getting ice cream, or just hanging out with friends, reward yourself for doing your best!
Remember you've worked hard all year, you've got this!!!

Allison won 1st place in District for 'Discovery Prepared Public Speaking. She qualified for State as a 7th Grader! Anyone who has met and spoken with Allison will tell you they aren't surprised. She's an articulate and intelligent young lady. Amazing job Allison - good luck at State!
We're pleased to announce our nomination of Zechariah Dixon for our Turnaround Student award this year. He and his family will be invited to a breakfast with the Mayor at Kokomo Country Club to receive his award. We are very proud of Zechariah and his accomplishments, and we look forward to seeing what the future may hold for this young man.
This picture was featured in our 1978 yearbook. The northern wall of the "NEW" Middle School was being constructed in the background. Students are standing where the Auditorium now sits. We hope to create a similar picture once the walls of our new building addition are constructed. Do you know any of these former students?
7th Grade Students visited I.U.K. to learn a little about the differences between college and high school. Additionally, all Northwestern students are eligible for the 'Power Up' program. This program gives a credit towards 1k off tuition to each student who maintains a 2.5 GPA and attends IUK.
It's very important that you charge your iPad every night before school. Our iPads are on their last year of service and some do not hold a charge like before. We need fully charged devices everyday! The good news - we will be getting new devices next year!
