Greetings 5th Grade Families, my name is Anthony Frabotta. I am the fifth grade science teacher. This will be my eighteenth year teaching at Northwestern! My wife, Heather, and I have two boys, Luka (a college freshman) and Orion (an 8th grader). I am a lifelong Buckeye. I was born and raised in northern Ohio just a few miles from Lake Erie and not far from Cleveland. I went to college at Ohio University in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Since then I have been living here in the Great Miami and Little Miami Watersheds in Clark and Greene counties for about twenty-five years. (In addition to science, I am also certified in social studies and love geography!)
I became a teacher because I wanted to share my love of science and the natural world with young people so they too might learn to better appreciate the wonderful world we live in and learn to take care of their own little patch of it. I am a certified environmental educator who loves to take students outdoors to learn in and from our schoolyard habitats. I'm also a certified arborist, which means I really love trees and like to plant and take care of them and help others to do the same. I'm hoping that we'll do many outdoor activities this year.
My expectations for students are this: treat yourself and others with respect; come to class with an open mind to learn; be prepared to work hard and to learn to be more self-directed and self-motivated. I will give you options so that you have the ability to follow your curiosity, wherever it may lead by doing some independent research and activities whenever time allows.
Parents, my communication lines are always open. Don't hesitate to call or email me with any questions or concerns throughout the year. I will be using the new District communication tool with parents, in addition to communicating via email at times. To reach me, feel free to use either method or call the school if necessary. I look forward to getting to know your child in the coming weeks and months and helping them to grow socially and emotionally as well as to develop the critical thinking skills necessary for scientific inquiry.
