About Us

About Us

The Friends of Tuscarora and Locust Lake State Parks formed in April 2021. This formation was to provide volunteers at the park/forest additional facets by which to contribute to the conservation and stewardship of the park and its resources.

The Friends of Tuscarora and Locust Lake State Parks formed as a chapter of the PA Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF). PPFF is a private, non-profit organization that works to develop resources which complement the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).

PPFF embraces diversity and is committed to non-discrimination in all aspects of the work of the Foundation and the Friends. This means that PPFF will take steps to ensure that all people are treated without regard to their race, color, sex, national or ethnic origin, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender or marital status.

We are incredibly honored and humbled to be selected as the 2022 Schuylkill County Conservation Organization of the Year and the 2022 Schuylkill County Outdoors Sports Personality of the Year.

In just 18 months since our inception, the Friends of Tuscarora and Locust Lake State Parks has developed a small but mighty effort to preserve and protect our parks.

We are proud of the partnerships we’ve built, the collaboration with DCNR, local businesses, and our always present group of volunteers and board members. Our group exists as a group of stewards, maintaining the educational, cultural, and recreational value of our great parks.

As a proud member of the PA Parks and Forests Foundation, we have much left to do to support, maintain, and enhance our state parks. We welcome everyone to join us in our efforts!

We have a role for you!

This group is a perfect outlet for your creative energy!   There are a wide variety of opportunities to put your skills to work for our state parks.  Whether you're a trail maintainer, a wildlife expert, a clerical professional, a handy person, an event organizer, or one of those special people who say, "Put me to work wherever you need me."  We have something for you!

Your special affinity for a specific park or forest means that a PPFF chapter friends group is the perfect outlet for your creative energy. Friends are people like you who volunteer their time, services and support to our state parks and forests. Chapters form for a variety of reasons but all understand the value of their state park or forest and share a common goal to make that park or forest the best in the commonwealth.

Every year, friends groups provide tens of thousands of volunteer hours working to improve and enhance state parks and forests. Friends groups connect people to the natural places of Pennsylvania while enhancing the role of public lands in local communities.

We will happily welcome you with open arms and a task or two of your very own!
