THE WEEPING WOMAN
Arthorne, a town home to many mysterious and wonderful traditions and stories. Seen as calming, the lake is regarded by many to be a sacred place of healing. Though when night falls, locals whisper of a different tale, one that cautions travelers be wary of those dark waters. For when the sun goes to sleep, something else awakens.
Often seen sitting on the small island in the middle, weeping until the sun rises again. Some believe her to be the lost soul of one who drowned, while others believe her to be the manifestation of those slain by the swords of the lake. Any who have been brave enough to try speaking to her have garnered no response, aside from her mournful song.
Though, much like many things in Arthorne, something has changed. Some who have recently passed by at night said that she no longer stays resigned to her island, and instead has begun wandering the shores and trails nearby. No one knows for what reason, if any, she has come to land, and no one has dared to ask why.
So when the moon rises high above the trees, and you begin to hear the cries of a woman echoing through the night, be careful which paths you wander, for you very well may not be alone.
