FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  1. What time does school start?

School starts every morning, Monday-Friday at 8:00 AM for all students, grades K4-8th. Each morning starts with a Zoom morning meeting with their homeroom teacher, and on Mondays and Fridays we have all school morning meeting at 8:00 AM via Zoom.

  1. What does my child need every day?

To be successful, students will need their Chromebook, charger, internet access, their Clever Badge, a writing utensil and paper. NWC has provided a small whiteboard, marker, and all log in information for your child.

  1. Is my child on Zoom all day?

No. There are times during the day where scholars are working independently (without direct instruction from their teacher). These times are the same every day and are on their class schedule. Schedules are available here on the Parent Portal, on ClassTag, SeeSaw and Google Classroom.

  1. How do I know if my child is completing assignments?

Parents will have access to Powerschool to see student progress starting December 4, 2020. You will receive your log in information with the Trimester 1 report card. You can also check SeeSaw (K4-2) and Google Classroom (3-8) to see your student's progress in real time.

  1. How can I contact my child's teacher?

All NWC teachers use ClassTag as a means for communication with parents and families. You should have received invitations to the ClassTag mailing list, but if you need a new invitation, email your teacher or call the school. ClassTag allows teachers and parents to send messages to each other, and also allows teachers to post important updates. ClassTag also has a free mobile app that can be downloaded on all platforms.

  1. When my child isn't on Zoom, what should they do?

When not on Zoom for direct instruction, students will be given very clear directions on what to do. Students will either work on guided notes and assignments found on SeeSaw and Google Classroom, or on an online learning platform such as Headsprout, iReady, Zearn, Lexia, or Dreambox.

  1. How much time should my child spend on the online platforms?

Teachers will tell students directly how many lessons they should complete daily/weekly. Below is a chart that has an overall view:
