Diversity:
Diversity hours can be obtained in a variety of settings. Possibilities for completion of these hours include, but are not limited to: travel in diverse areas of the U.S. or abroad, ESL programs, International club activities, work with special needs youth, work with elderly, and work with marginalized populations. A brief reflection is required for each experience. Paid hours may not be used. 20 hours from Human Relations (EDU340CC) may be used for this credential (and this credential only).
Per state licensing requirements: 25 hours must be completed in a “classroom setting,” though the nature of that setting is flexible.
Service:
This credential represents 50 service hours. Service hours can be obtained in a variety of settings. Possibilities for completion of these hours include, but are not limited to: on-campus events, community service, church responsibilities, and SSPs. A brief reflection is required for each experience. Paid hours may not be used, and no double-dipping is permitted.
Arts:
This credential represents 50 hours devoted to visual art, music, theatre, and everything in between. Arts hours can be obtained in a variety of settings. Possibilities for completion of these hours include, but are not limited to: attending a production, concert, or artist reception, assisting with an area high school writing workshop, volunteering with OC Stages. A brief reflection is required for each experience. Paid hours and scholarship hours may not be used, and no double-dipping is permitted.
Leadership:
This credential represents 50 leadership hours. Leadership hours can be obtained in a variety of settings. Possibilities for completion of these hours include, but are not limited to: education club officer, department student representative, NWC committee student representative, and athletic team manager. A brief reflection is required for each experience. Paid hours may not be used, and no double-dipping is permitted.
Professionalism:
This credential represents 50 professional hours. Professional hours can be obtained in a variety of settings, but must be educational offerings. Possibilities for completion of these hours include, but are not limited to: national, regional, & local conferences, on-campus events, and school in-services. A brief reflection is required for each experience. Paid hours may not be used, and no double-dipping is permitted.
STEM:
This credential represents 50 STEM hours (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). STEM hours can be obtained in a variety of settings. Possibilities for completion of these hours include, but are not limited to: conferences and library, school, & homeschool events/projects. A brief reflection is required for each experience. Paid hours may not be used, and no double-dipping is permitted.
Tutoring:
This credential represents 50 tutoring hours. Tutoring hours can be obtained in a variety of settings. Possibilities for completion of these hours include, but are not limited to: ACT tutoring, school-based tutoring, writing center tutoring, and lesson plan tutoring. A brief reflection is required for each experience. Paid hours may not be used, and no double-dipping is permitted.
Bible Teaching:
This credential is directed to students who plan to teach in a Christian school after graduation. Because the state offers no endorsement for Christian day school teaching, we offer this to help bolster a resume or CV. Unlike our other offerings, the Bible Teaching credential is granted after a specific set of courses is offered instead of hours volunteered.
