"To enhance the effectiveness of this strategy, it should come after teacher-delivered core instruction and be used within a station rotation model. Through the application of teacher embedded rigorous questions or prompts in a video, interactive video allows students to reinforce learning and deepen cognition around core ideas." Bold School, Kieschnick, p. 66

Bold School- Interactive Video

Quick Tips:

  • Students are both ACTIVE and REACTIVE viewers

    • ACTIVE viewing- take notes and respond to questions

    • REACTIVE viewing- think critically. Students are giving arguments opposed to just answers (Common Sense Education)

Videos should be 2-4 minutes in length.

  • All questions should relate back to the essential question in varied DOK levels.

  • Videos should follow one of two methodologies

    • Show and Tell: Show a video and let students tell you their responses or refelctions

    • Tell and Show: The viewer tells the teacher what he/she thinks based on a prompt. The viewer can then determine whether their answer is accurately justified as the video is shown.
