Knightly Chronicles

Sideline Scoop - Old Tappan Football Update

By Dean Goldstein

CDW Family and Friends, did you know that your Northern Valley Junior and Senior Knights are having an amazing season? With only two games left before the playoff push, the Knights need your support. This Saturday, October 24th the Knights will host Park Ridge at NVOT High School. Then, next weekend the Knights will be traveling to Carlstadt to face off in their final regular season game.

For many years, Old Tappan and Northvale combined to form the Eagles, while Norwood and Harrington Park formed the Raiders. Two years ago all 4 towns merged to create The Northern Valley Junior Knights. You can go root for your friends in Old Tappan, as well as students you might go to high school with in NVOT.

Right now the Junior Knights and Senior Knights are fighting for playoff seeding. You might see some players and cheerleaders walking around the CDW hallways. Such kids on the Junior team include: Dean Goldstein (6th), Santi Mendia (6th), Anthony Marti (6th), Mason Ellison (6th), Brandon Kim (6th), Elijah Hong (6th), Halsey Smithson (5th), Jeremy Kim (5th), and Bromley Naughton (5th). Some kids from the Senior team are: Declan Murphy (8th), Harry Etter (8th), Eunwoo Cho (8th), Mostafa Hassan (8th), Nick Gibb (7th), Ben Lausin (7th), Nicholas Milani (7th), William Smithson (7th), Max Liao (7th), Jackson Meberg (7th), and JC Ranu (7th). If you see them in the hallway, you can wish them good luck. Or... even better, you can come out this saturday and support our friends and classmates play in the big game on Saturday at NVOT!

What is Josephine's Garden?

By Skyler Dzurina

On Friday, October 23, students in CDW are asked to wear gold or yellow to celebrate Josephine’s garden. But who is Josephine? Why did she have a garden?

Josephine was a girl who was diagnosed with a high grade brain tumor called atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor. The hospital she was placed in was the Joseph M. Sanzari children’s hospital, but unfortunately Josephine died on October 23, 2011. Because of Josephine’s treatment, she was restricted from going outside, and she dreamed of a magical outdoor space where patients didn’t have to ask to go.

She noticed a rooftop of the hospital, and imagined it there. The garden consisted of a wishing fountain, a place to draw, and many more ideas. And a little bit after she died, Josephine’s Garden was created for a tribute to the little girl. You can honor Josephine by wearing Gold or Yellow this Friday. You can help other children in that hospital by donating to a really great cause that helps children.
