Discipline Policy

From the first day of school, the children will be learning appropriate social and behavior skills required to be successful at school.  We will discuss what rules are and why we have them.  The children will generate rules that they have had in the past and discuss how they can help us in kindergarten.

In order for our classroom to be a safe place where we can be safe, learn, and have fun, the children should follow these rules:

Rule # 1:  Listening Ears:     I listen when someone is talking.

Rule # 2:  Active Brain:        I follow directions quickly.

Rule # 3:  Raised Hands:      I raise my  hand to share ideas.

Rule # 4: Safe Body:            I respect the personal space of others.

Rule # 5: Caring Heart:        I treat others the way I want to be treated.

Encouraging the class to work together to create a conducive environment for learning is also very important.

Birthday Celebrations

Your child will fill out a Birthday Book to read to the class.  This will be sent a week before your child's birthday

You may send in a pre-packed, store bought treat for the class.  We currently have 18 children.  No goodie bags, please.

If you plan on having a celebration outside of school, please do not send in any invitations to be distributed.

Summer birthdays will be celebrated toward the end of the school year.  I will coordinate a date with you as the time approaches.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Backpack and folder

Check your child’s backpack and folder on a daily basis.  Please encourage your child to be responsible for his/her belongings.

Homework Policy

The Importance of Homework

To reinforce concepts taught in class. Most often, your child will be given directions for the homework in class before the assignment comes home.

Allows children to assume responsibility for their own work.  I expect homework to be completed to the best of your child’s ability in pencil.

Helps students become independent workers.  Set up a quiet space for your child that is well-lit and away from the hustle and bustle of other household noise and activity. Your child should be able to complete the assignments independently after initial directions are given by you.  If your child experiences difficulties, please contact me.

When Homework will be Assigned

Make it a habit to check my website every Monday for the weekly assignments.

Each night, your child will bring home his/her Poetry Journal.  After reading the poem of the week and the new Alphafriend song, please leave the Poetry Journal in your child’s backpack EVERY NIGHT.  We use them every day at school for  many literacy activities and it makes it easier for your child to follow along if s/he has the journal.   Poetry journals will stay in school on Fridays to add poems for the next week.

Homework should take children approximately 10 minutes a night to complete.  Your child will be required to take his/her homework out of his/her folder and turn it into the basket located on my desk in the morning.

If you notice your child having difficulty, please contact me immediately. I also encourage you to read a story to your child each night.  If there is a valid reason why homework was not completed, let me know.
