Mission Statement

The mission of Howard Wasden Elementary School is to involve parents, staff, community and students in the full development of the potential of all students academically, socially and emotionally to become life-long learners by providing a safe, nurturing and motivating educational environment.

History

Did you know Howard Wasden Elementary was once called West Charleston School?

West Charleston School was built in 1952-1953 and was surrounded by mostly desert.

At first West Charleston was a k-8 school before it was an Elementary School.

This was the first school built with Federal funds in Las Vegas. This was due to the large amount of families in the area that worked for the Test Site and at Nellis Air Force Base.

In 1974 the school was renamed to Howard Wasden Elementary School After its first Principal Howard Wasden.
