Xochi Mendoza has stayed consistent playing softball for 10 years, which has helped her grow overall. She learned that softball isn’t only about running bases but also about growing with her team.
Her journey in softball all started from a young age, and it was influenced by her family. Her early start in playing helped her to build a powerful foundation and enthusiasm for softball.
“I have been playing softball for 10 years, and my dad pushed me to play. Ever since I have been able to grab a bat, I have been swinging and throwing a ball.” Xochi said with a smile.
Throughout her years of playing softball, she has gone up against physical challenges that tested her commitment to the sport. These problems needed patience and discipline to help her recover and push herself.
“I tend to get injured a lot, so it is painful, and it takes a while to recover. I also have to handle a lot with school, playing sports, and driving to school, and it is a lot to deal with,” Xochi stated.
Beside the challenges she faced, Xochi has gained many strengths that help her on and off the field. These skills help her stay focused and do well in a high-pressure environment.
“I can think quickly on my feet, I'm a multitasker, and I am strong,” Mendoza said with confidence.
Mendoza’s quick ability to react has become a key part of how she plays in games. By making quick choices it helps herself to stay aware and avoid errors.
“I learned not to second-guess myself because in softball, if you take too long to think, it can make a difference in the game,” Xochi said.
