With a disappointing defense and mediocre QB play, The Raiders were disappointing, to say the least in 2022, going 6-11 and finishing third in the AFC West, and missing the playoffs.
The defense certainly let down the above-average offense, finishing fifth worst in the NFL out of thirty-two teams, and blowing multiple double-digit leads; four, to be specific.
The freshman Biomed teacher Mr. Volcic had some thoughts: “They’re just not good on defense, I mean, they have a few good individual players like Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones, but as a unit, they gave up too many points. They just let teams score all the time.”
Despite the talent on the offensive side of the ball, quarterback Derek Carr finished with fourteen interceptions, the third most of any QB in the league, and eventually got benched at the end of the season.
Freshman Tommy Sabelko stated, “The team had QB problems, the QB is just not on pace with the wide receivers.”
Star receiver Davante Adams was one of the few bright spots for the team, as he finished in the top ten in catches, yards, yards per catch, and first among all receivers in receiving touchdowns, but once again, the team let him down.
“I don’t know how many times Adams had a huge first half, and never saw the ball in the second half,” stated Volcic.
Running back Josh Jacobs also had a phenomenal year, finishing top five in rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns. However, the Raiders made a mistake in not picking up his fifth-year option, which would’ve kept him on the team for at least one more year. Now he could depart to another team via free agency in the coming months.
“I think it would be a huge mistake if they didn’t resign him, I mean, the leading rusher in the league…” Volcic explained.
To the joy of some Raiders fans, rumors have been out that the Raiders could be doing the unimaginable and signing forty-five-year-old Tom Brady in the offseason. Volcic had other thoughts.
“I don’t think Brady’s the answer after watching him in the playoffs.” Volcic exclaimed.
