BMX is an olympic sport that uses riding bikes on dirt paths. The freshman Layla Massey is a BMX racer, and races religiously. She races for a team here in Vegas, and travels across the country. She has been practicing for a long time, and has overcome obstacles and even fears to achieve her goal.
Massey stated “I am in love with this sport!” She thinks it is a great overall sport; it is something that she wants to pursue in life as her job. Massey’s goal is to go junior women when she is 17 and race pro by 20 which can lead to the olympics. Her goal is very thorough and will require work, but she has the determination to accomplish it.
Massey has a no days off mentality when it comes to this sport because she has practice from Sunday to Tuesday and races Monday to Saturday. She has fun throughout the week and her goal seems obtainable. Many people ignore BMX and overlook it to an extent, but it is an intriguing sport. Massey stated “She was scared in the first couple of months then I got faster, and now I have to face my fears and race the race.”
Massey’s love for BMX wins over all the other sports that she knows. “This is a sport in which you can just be yourself, and you do not have to work with others… just have the confidence to win by yourself.” Massey has the mindset to win by herself, have nobody drag her down or drag others down. “My favorite part is the people I meet, and the places I get to go.”
Massey has taken the time and diligence to make the olympics, yet she still has a lot to go and prove. She wants to do her at all times, so this is the perfect sport for her. Able to travel everywhere, meet people, and make money later on is a great deal for a job.
