James “Alex” Scaggs, Junior at NWCTA, has been following his passion of baseball since he was three years old and playing competitively since he was five years old. After putting in hard work for 11 years, Alex has finally begun to see the rewards.
Many people seem to believe that the process of being scouted is simply waiting around for coaches to come to you. When in reality the work put into the process is great, from picking a school, all the way back to getting coaches to even look at you. As we dive into Alex’s experience in the process, he states this.
“To be honest, it was kind of hard, like, at first, during last year in the spring, or this year during the spring.” Alex also adds, “Maybe like the first, like four months, I didn’t get any feedback from anyone. And then once I went to the Georgia tournament, that’s whenever they started reaching out to me and finding interest.”
There are many steps to try and get noticed by coaches, including sending emails and videos. After asking Alex the steps that he went through to get noticed, he said this.
“just sending videos to coaches or mentioning them in posts” Alex said.
Obviously none of this would be worth it if it wasn’t something he saw himself doing for a long time. Alex gladly shared his opinion when asked is he thinks he will go far in his baseball career.
“As long as I’m being a good teammate and working hard and making sure I’m doing what I need to do. I believe I can make it.” Alex stated.
After hearing Alex talk about his baseball career so far, it's clear that this is the sport for him. And if he continues to go down the path of hard work, determination, and perseverance, then he will go far.
