The NorthWest Vet Science Program has been having a couple of field trips this end of the year to places like Moapa Valley and Reno. The field trips have been to events that allow the vet students to compete against other schools in the areas of Horse Evaluation, Floriculture, Vet Science, Meat Evaluation, Milk Quality and Products, Poultry Evaluation, and Creed Speaking.
“They get a chance to meet new people and learn new information and skills from people in the industry and other students studying similar things as them. Any opportunity a student can take to go on a field trip will be something that they remember and learn from.” Says Mrs. Hobbs, Northwest’s Biology and Vet Science teacher.
Vet Science students will be learning so much from these field trips and might be able to help them see what it takes to be a Vet, and if they want to still be a vet they will be having more knowledge on what a vet does and all the responsibilities they might have in the future. Mrs. Hobbs says, “For competitions, the students can learn about other events that they can compete in as well as how to improve in the event they are in. They also get to meet new people and see places they may not have ever had the chance to see and tour and ask questions about before.” Going on the field trips can also give the students the opportunity to meet others that have similar interests in them
Vet Science field trips can be very beneficial for the students in the Vet Science program and can help them decide if this career is right for them, and if it is then they can get extra knowledge of what vets do and use. Their next field trip is from March 16 - 21 this year and will be going to Reno, Nevada for the State Competition.
