Everywhere in the classroom halls, the cafeteria, out in public! On some teenagers' phone, there's the same colorful blocks on an 8x8 grid. This favorable, addictive game is called Block Blast.
Though the game was introduced by Hungry Studio in 2022, Block Blast gained popularity among teenagers in 2024 with the idea of clearing rows by filling them with the given shapes and ending the game when you cannot place one of the shapes given.
“I got Block Blast because it became really popular on TikTok. I also saw several of my friends play it, so I decided to download it to see what all the hype was about,” Tallulah Coan, a user of Block Blast, says. “Now I play the game nearly every day!”.
Today’s generation is fixated on fidget games and toys to pass the time, they find it to be beneficial and entertaining to do. Not only that, but the game itself can challenge your brain, which makes it even more addicting.
“I think that block blast is good for you,” Gavin Leveille, an everyday player, says. “It's a puzzle game. It helps spark activity and solving. It requires logical thinking to fit blocks, making you strategize to clear lines and maximize scores.”
A possible reason why this game is praised a lot can be due to some chemicals in your brain that creates happiness and motivation. So when you play Block Blast, it makes you want to play it even more.
“Dopamine is a chemical messenger that is naturally released from nerve cells in your brain. It acts on cells in different parts of your brain to produce a wide range of effects,” Health Direct says.
“One of its functions is to create a good feeling after you do something enjoyable; this makes you want to do it again, and this is why dopamine plays a role in addiction.”
