As Homecoming at Northwest approaches, students gather together to decorate the school hallways with their spirit in preparation for the big event.
Every year, the student council at Northwest holds an event to decorate the school halls a couple of weeks before Homecoming. Students from every grade get to hang out and put their artistic skills to use. This year, the theme for homecoming is Great Gatsby so the hallways were all glammed up with references to the book and movie.
“I had a difficult time making decorations because although I don’t dislike the theme, I just didn’t really understand the theme,” senior Jacqueline Ly admitted.
Since Great Gatsby isn’t a piece of literature many people don’t know, it was more challenging to create ideas. Others, however, understood the theme very well even though they didn’t completely understand the themes behind the Great Gatsby.
“Even if I hadn’t read the book, I just searched up some ideas on Google and had lots of fun making whatever I saw alongside my friends,” senior Adriel Dionisio said.
For the seniors decorating the 800s hall, this is the last time they’ll ever get to make and hang up decorations for Northwest’s homecoming night. While it seems like something that doesn’t matter much, some people made many memories and friendships during past homecoming decoration nights.
“I met one of my best friends during my Freshman year homecoming decoration night and it was lowkey crazy realizing that we’ve known each other for that long and now it was our last time ever doing this,” senior Erron Coloma mentioned.
Homecoming decoration nights always have lots of students participating, whether to get service hours or hang out with friends. This year, the student council provided any students who helped decorate free Cane's chicken if they stayed till the end.
“As seniors, we got to grab food first and noticed that many underclassmen got much less than us, so if they offer food again, maybe there should be a better system,” Dionisio proposed.
