Students at Northwest Career and Technical Academy have a responsibility to wear identification cards with them at all times during the school day including the morning when they are needed to enter the building. Most students that were asked about this topic have said it is a good thing and we have to deal with it. This being some students feel the way the school is enforcing the dress code is unreasonable because a lot of students don’t have money and some students don’t always remember their id all the time and it can be frustrating, being pulled out in the middle of class and waiting for them to punish you and write you up.
According to multiple teachers and staff at the school, the Ids are for our safety and help the staff account for students in case of an emergency and to see who belongs here and who doesn’t. This being it has helped teachers scan .students in for attendance, and also scan students during a drill. One of the drawbacks of this though is the fact that students have to take more time signing in and out on the website just to spend a minute or less in the bathroom. Initially, the sign in and Ids are supposed to help with safety, but this just wastes class time instead of just writing down your name on a paper really quick.
These IDs can be a great tool though, they will help with responsibility throughout life because you'll need an id for everything. An id to show your age and home address, a driver’s license, and other instances such as a work ID. These IDs that the school is cracking down on for safety are very reasonable.
When the school started cracking down on Ids students who lost their Ids or don’t like wearing them had to pay. The school made the student pay for an Id or they would get taken out of class more just to get another warning and referral. This was annoying to some students for the sole reason of not having money and their parents getting mad at them.
All in all the school Ids are a good thing but the way they’re enforcing them can be a little too much at times. They take students out of class and they have to wait in line with other students wasting class time just to get a warning or referral. A lot of students aren’t able to afford these Ids even though they’re only five dollars, that could be taken from their lunch and or from their allowance just so they don’t get in trouble.
