Shooting threat at Shadow Ridge High School causes NWCTA students to fear possible threats in the future.
Even though NWCTA has a high reputation, students are nervous about the people at school.
Sophomore Sophia Perez says, “I was concerned as it reminded me that threats are something that could occur anywhere, including NWCTA.”
After continuous thought, students started questioning the school and fearing for safety.
Freshman Kira Haraguchi says, “I believe it is a possibility. It can happen at our school because we don't take a lot of precautions to prevent someone from bringing stuff like that to our school.”
Students need to mentally prepare and have a plan for the possibility of a threat.
Sophomore Claire Quinn says, “I will always have a phone to communicate with my family and make sure I know the school’s emergency procedures.”
Students believe safety should be our number one priority to benefit the school.
Quinn says, “Make sure that all kids on campus are free of weapons and continue using school IDs to make sure only students are on campus.”
Agreeing with Ms. Quinn, Perez says, “It's difficult to prevent students from thinking about violence overall, but it's important to educate students on how to defend themselves in the case of dangerous situations, it's important to hold assemblies or events to spread awareness on these situations.”
Although the threat was taken care of, students kept everyone involved in their thoughts.
Haraguchi says, “Knowing that one of my close friends was there, I was worried for her safety, but I also felt a lot of remorse for how she and all the other students were feeling. I’m sure they were very scared, and I feel a lot of sympathy for them. I also feel bad for the teachers because it is their job to keep their students safe as well as themselves, and I understand that can be very stressful for them.”
Perez adds, “I felt their worry and anxiety, and I’m glad students weren’t harmed.”
