For sophomore Gavin Leveille, this year’s trip to Reno to compete in FCCLA was more than just a competition. It was an experience that brought people closer together, strengthened skills and was able to be a core memory.
The FCCLA trip centered around leadership development and competitive events. Students across the state gathered to show their abilities, they spent weeks preparing materials and presentations.
“The purpose of this trip and competition season was to develop our leadership skills, build connections, and compete.” Sophomore Gavin Leveille said.
Beyond the competition, Gavin emphasized the value and fun of the environment. He encourages students, all grade levels, to consider joining and participating in future events.
“I would definitely recommend going next year, no matter what grade you may be in,” He said. “Being a part of State and FCCLA itself is a giant opportunity with many branches to even further benefit you in the future and in long-term life skills.”
Gavin would’ve rated the trip a 10/10, but he had a minor health issue during his stay in Reno.
“I would rate this year’s trip a 9.5 out of 10. I only dock 0.5 of a point because of health issues I encountered on the trip, but other than that I wouldn’t improve anything else. I loved this year's trip to Reno, I loved the people that I went with, and I cannot wait to go next year!”
For Gavin, the trip wasn’t only about competition results, it was about growth, connecting with others, and learning what you can improve for the next year.
