With ACT testing now concluded, many students are now reflecting on their experiences across different high schools. They reflect on the preparation and pressure that come with taking the ACT exam. Since they are an important standardized test for college admissions, students describe their different strategies to get prepared for the exam.
Jackson Meiers, a junior at Centennial High School, said he prepared for the ACT by attending ACT Bootcamp.
“I actually went to an ACT Bootcamp, which helped a lot. We took a bunch of practice tests, and they showed us strategies for each section,” Jackson recounts. “It made me feel way more prepared than if I just studied by myself.”
On the contrary, Graeson Wieseke, a junior at Arbor View High School, said his preparation was more relaxed compared to the other students.
“Honestly, not a whole lot (preparation).” Graeson jokes. “I did like one or two practice tests and looked at a few questions online, but that’s about it. If a question looked too hard, I’d just skip it and move on.”
Meanwhile, Christopher Ibarra, a junior at Northwest Career and Technical Academy, said he spent time reviewing materials and practicing questions.
“I used some study guides and did practice questions, so I could get used to the format of the ACT,” Christopher explained. “Math is harder for me, so I practiced more math questions and reviewed stuff I didn’t understand.
