Alexis Calugay is a sophomore student who attends Northwest Career and Technical Academy. Who is planning to join 101 classes in her future high school years to come.
Jumpstart is a program that allows public school high school students to enroll in full-time career and technical education programs. Students will be able earn high school credits for college courses that they successfully complete.
The Jumpstart program was established to provide current and technical education opportunities to high school students whose interests weren’t currently being served by their high school.
But 101 classes are a little different. 101 classes is an introductory course at a beginners level in a certain subject. And these classes will be provided by Northwest.
101 classes were designed to help high school students gain necessary skills to be successful. 101 classes will help students explore study skills , time management , goal setting , test taking strategies , career exploration and more.
Calugay thinks the other sophomore students who attend Northwest would enjoy the 101 classes. Calugay said “I think they’d be excited! It’s an amazing opportunity to be able to high school and college education at the same time.
Calugay thinks the 101 classes will help students at Northwest. I’ll help the students understand what / how college classes really are. While still allowing them to have a high school experience.
If more students enrolled in 101 classes at northwest it could eliminate some course classes. Calugay says “I plan to take English 101 / 102 in my senior year so it’ll help me with my future college experience.” And she said that “I think it’ll change my high school experience in a positive way! It might be a challenge, but I know it’ll only benefit me.
