Opening its doors to welcome new and returning students, NWCTA offers The Cafe. The cafe gives affordable options from sweet to savory foods for its staff and students to enjoy.
Students express their favor towards the cafe rather than the cafeteria food, comparing both and sharing their opinions in both a positive and negative perspective.
“The Cafe food is much better than the cafeteria food, it’s also very affordable, many of the things cost about a dollar and are still delicious,” Freshman, Miguel Vindiola, shares, “My favorite thing about the cafe is the variety that it gives and not just one specific food group.”
While acknowledging the benefits, there are still some things students wish they could change.
“Honestly, the only thing I would change is the paying options. I really wish they would accept Tap or card instead of just cash,” Steven Miller-Escobar Junior, shares. “Although the lines are pretty long, sometimes it goes by fast and the food is definitely worth the wait.”
While the Cafe offers opportunities for students to have different food options, it also allows culinary students to have real-life experiences for culinary students.
“The Cafe helps seniors also deal with professional experience and being able to handle multiple things at a time,” Chef KP explains. “In the culinary industry, you never know what your day will look like exactly. You always have to be on your toes and ready for any situation.”
Overall, there isn't just one specific group of people that benefit from The Cafe. Instead, those who benefit from The Cafe range from students who just want an affordable and delicious lunch, culinary students handling real-life situations, and teachers who now have a source of funds for the culinary program.
“The Cafe’s main goal is to fund the culinary program,” Chef KP states. “By the end of the first semester, the fees that students pay for culinary are already gone, so The Cafe provides a new source of funds for us.”
