At Northwest Career and Technical Academy, students of all ages are on social media for some or most of their day. Social media can have a pretty strong impact on students, whether in a positive way or a negative way.
Social media affects students every day. While most students use social media for a helpful cause, there are some people who can use social media negatively or inappropriately.
“I feel like people on the wrong side, people can do inappropriate things on it, or like, it could really affect students' mental health if they are comparing themselves a lot to other people out there,” sophomore Trinity Landin stated.
Even though there is a negative side to every social media platform, there will always be people who use it for good, and it affects students' mental health positively.
“I run a health coaching business through social media platforms, mostly Instagram. I try to bring out the positive ways to use social media in my careers class and health class because there are great tools that you can use and find on social media,” 9th-grade teacher Katie Spanish stated.
While social media has an impact on students' mental health, it can also have an impact on a student's academic performance as well.
