At NWCTA, many students juggle academics with personal relationships, which can either boost motivation or create distractions. These outside connections play a significant role in shaping their academic performance, for better or for worse.
Luke Basil, a freshman, expresses how relationships can be a distraction, and how the balance between personal connections and academics is a challenge
Sometimes, I find myself spending more time texting or hanging out with my girlfriend than focusing on my assignments, which affects my grades.¨ Basil admits, ¨I know I need to prioritize school more, but my relationship is what distracts me the most.¨
However, the impact of relationships on academic life isn't always negative. On the other hand, Alyssa Robles, a senior, finds that her relationship provides motivation rather than distraction.
¨Having a strong support system, especially with friends and family, really motivates me to push through difficult assignments and stay focused on my goals.¨ Robles rambled, "Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I can always count on my significant other to remind me of the bigger picture.
As students continue to navigate these personal connections, they must find ways to manage their time, ensuring that their academic success does not take a backseat to distractions, but also allowing space for the support that a personal relationship can offer.
¨Students today need to understand that managing their time for fun and for personal growth is important¨ Cheyenne Taylor, an educator at NWCTA expresses. ¨Find those that will help you, and support you; it will help you through the journey of life.¨
