The Biomed club, HOSA, organized and prepared a food drive for the NWCTA students. The food drive’s main goal is to be a resource for any NWCTA students and their families. “Our food bank, HOSA Helping Hawks, plans to make a difference in our school for our students,'' says the vice president of HOSA, Naomi Hammonds.
Hammonds says this idea was originally presented by three seniors last year and this year they were able to organize and plan it to start collecting donations. The members created a food list which includes the items you can donate. Hammonds explained they took a look at various food banks and what they choose to collect in order to compile a list together.
“It is estimated that one in eight people in our state are currently experiencing food hardships, meaning they can’t always afford the food they need,'' says Hammonds. The food drive can help with that and decrease the issue. “ Overall in Nevada, 365,160 people are struggling with hunger and of them 136,800 are children,” Hammonds adds on.
After collecting the supplies, HOSA keeps all the donations in a storage room. Students can request food through their counselor or they can talk to Mr. Hamburg or Mr. Henson. The food is there for any student in need at any time.
Don't worry if you didn’t get a chance to donate to the food drive; HOSA will host multiple donation events throughout the year. “We named our food bank HOSA Hawking Hawks in hopes of aiding students at this school. To do this to do the best our ability please consider donating to help your fellow peers,” says Hammonds.
