As the 2025 year starts, all the incoming freshmen start to pile in. As they begin their first year in high school, they are faced with new classes, new teachers, and a whole new variety of friends. Some may find it hard, but most find it exciting.
The first couple of weeks are always the most stressful. It’s when students are trying to memorize their schedule, learn where their classes are, and try to make new friends. Here at Northwest, they try to make the first couple of weeks as easy as they can. Emilyn Ballocanag, a freshman at NWCTA, shared her view on how these first few weeks were for her.
“My first couple of weeks at Northwest have been different from what I expected,” Emilyn goes into detail. “I thought it was honestly gonna be way worse, but the people here are really welcoming, and it’s really well paced, and the teachers are really nice.”
It's hard to adjust to a whole new school when you get the teachers who seem like they don’t really care. It’s the teacher's job to help the student feel comfortable, but most importantly, welcome. Leah Rubio, a freshman at NWCTA, shares her opinion on how the teachers are doing their jobs.
“Oh, yeah, for sure. I love all my teachers. They are very welcoming, they treat everybody equally, like they say they're going to,” Leah gladly said.
The stress of feeling welcome is one thing, but the stress of having to find your classes is another. Class locations are definitely different from middle school, so some people find it really hard to adjust when they have to go to three different hallways for classes instead of one.
“I mean, I think that the open house is a good idea, but I wasn’t able to go to it. So as long as you go to open house, I think you’ll be okay.” William Earhart, a freshman at NWCTA, gave some advice.
