Decoration night or “deco night” for short is a school-wide event that can be participated in by all grade levels, while it’s chaperoned by staff members and members from student council.
It takes place before every school dance to raise school spirit by decorating the hallways with decorations worked on by students and student council members. No venue is made from this event because entry only requires being scanned in with your school ID.
Due to the fact that decoration night takes place after school most students order food, interviewee Cameron Riddle, Freshman, was asked what he does when he needs to eat he responded.
“I door dash a bunch of Mcdonadls or a large pizza to the school for me and my friends which is why I always save money for deco night.”
The event is open to all grades interviewee, Ira Smith, Senior, about what her role in deco night is as student body president, to which she responded with.
“Deconight has always been one of the most significant mandatory events and occurs before every dance, so I always try to take inventory of all our decorations and get an estimate of how many people are going and how many decorations we have.”
Although it’s a fun event all student council members can agree that we need people to show up and work, interviewee Jayla Matthews, sophomore, about what she does when people aren’t working during deco night due to the fact that she is in sophomore council she responded with.
“In between working on the window poster I walk around and if I see people sitting around not working I kick them out of the hallway.”
Deco night can be easily missed but Jayla Matthews stated “By following the nwcta.hawks instagram page you’ll never miss an NWCTA event.”
