From Carpenter to Classroom, Mr. Jacobs has been a teacher here at NWCTA for the past two years. Before his time here at NWCTA Mr Jacobs was a full-time Carpenter for approximately 40 years.
Other than being a Carpenter Mr. Jacobs did many side jobs like home inspections and also owning his own business. He was looking into a teaching job for an apprenticeship program, and during that he found out about a position at NWCTA and decided to make the change.
“I have a lot of construction background and I found out there was a teaching position open to teach construction,” Mr. Jacobs explained. “I've considered teaching construction at an apprenticeship program before, and I never pursued it and this just seemed like a good time to pursue it.”
Mr. Jacobs has been loving his time here and loves teaching his students. He finds it truly interesting how students can pay attention to something for that matter of time. Mr. Jacobs’ favorite thing about teaching is instructing students who are truly passionate about what they are learning.
“Teaching the students who want to learn. That's a huge factor. If somebody wants to learn, it is a total blast to teach them,” Mr. Jacobs explained.
Mr. Jacobs believes the route from carpenter to classroom was the best he could have taken. He never believed he would become a teacher, but he sure is happy he did and he will never regret that choice.
“I wouldn't have changed my construction background. I wouldn't change this background. And, I'm glad I made the choices I made,” Mr. Jacobs said.
Students also adore Mr Jacobs. They say he is the best teacher they have ever had and they love him. They love how he truly cares for his students and wants them to pursue their best interests. Especially Derian Iniguez.
“Mr Jacobs is the best teacher I have ever had, he truly is so kind and always cares about us students. He has truly made a huge impact on my life,” Derian Iniguez, a current student of Mr Jacobs explained.
