No matter the grade, we all collectively feel anxious, excited, or depressed once the morning bell rings, marking the start of a new school year.
This year, Northwest Career and Technical Academy began school on August 7th, which also started the high school careers of freshmen who would naturally gravitate towards the advice of upperclassmen.
Pooja Jadeja, a junior, accounted for her previous years when finding helpful advice regarding keeping up with work; she suggested, "Invest in a planner, make mental notes to yourself, and set aside time for assignments that you know will take longer than usual so you feel more prepared when beginning homework or a project."
Winston Wei, a junior, corroborated her beliefs in organization and dedication being core foundations to getting work done efficiently, but he also took it to the college level.
"Advice I'd give to freshmen is to start thinking ahead since, as a junior, I'm already feeling the pressure to involve myself more in clubs, make it to nationals, and dedicate time to colleges and scholarships. Although everything shouldn't revolve around homework, there isn't no harm in consistently keeping up with assignments and finding opportunities to make yourself stand out." Wei advised.
Finally, moving up a grade level, Chidiebere "Chidi" Moseri, a senior, decided to differ from the general academic tips and tricks and instead help out freshmen in the social aspects of high school.
"Coming to a new high school, it's unlikely that you'll remain friends or stick with your middle school friends. Joining clubs and simply being more social (i.e., getting off your phone, starting conversations) are some of the best ways to meet new people," Moseri acknowledged, "but most importantly, stay out of drama and mind your business."
