New year means new songs and artists which also means it’s time to talk about the songs and artists of last year. The Grammy’s just recently passed and according to Northwest CTA students, this is who should’ve won.
The Grammy’s had appearances from multiple genres show up. Rappers from Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, and Ice-T to Lil Uzi, R&B artists such as Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, and Pj Morton also made appearances.
Valeria Cervantes, Senior, says that Mary J. Blige should’ve won the category “Best R&B Song” with her new hit “Good Morning Gorgeous” instead of Beyonce’s “CUFF IT.” “Mary J. has always had hits, but Beyonce’s new album wasn’t all that.”
The 1st annual Grammy took place in 1959. It’s an award ceremony that recognizes outstanding achievements in the music industry.
Miriam Blanco, Senior, says Beyonce wasn’t robbed of “Album of the Year.” “Harry deserved to win Album of the Year because her album didn’t have that many streams and wasn’t as viral as Harry’s.”
Speculation was roaming social media after the awards that Beyonce was robbed and deserved that award more than Harry Styles.
There were two major performances made at this year's Grammys. These performances had multiple appearances made.
The “50 Years of HipHop” performance was so major mainly because of the artists who appeared. Big Boi, De La Soul, Missy Elliot, Ice-T, Lil Wayne, The Lox, Method Man, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, and so many more all performed and made history.
Another major performance was Offset’s tribute to a loved lost one, Takeoff who recently died of a shooting. The rapper performed “See You Again” by Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa who performed this song 8 years ago in tribute to Paul Walker
Another senior, Marley Hussain says that the song Bad Habit by Steve Lacy should’ve won “Song of the Year.” “Bad Habit by Steve Lacy should’ve won because it was everywhere and extremely popular.”
With the new year, there’s already new songs, albums and even new artists releasing new hits. Many can’t wait for The Grammy’s 2024.
