On Nov. 13, 2019, streaming platform Netflix and production company Nickelodeon announced a huge several year partnership that will allow beloved shows to be streamed on Netflix. Shows like “Spongebob Squarepants”and “iCarly” have a chance and are rumored to be put onto the streaming platform in the near future.
In a survey done around the school out of 85 students ranging from freshmen to seniors, 71% of the students claimed to be excited for the collaboration and the rest said that they were not excited for the Netflix deal.
The deal is estimated to be valued at about $200 million. Netflix stated that this deal would take place shortly after the release of Disney+, a rivaling streaming platform made by Disney, and is home to many shows Disney has produced.
When asking a student here at Northwest what his thoughts were on the deal Diego Perez, a Junior said “It’s a really exciting thing to be happening because of all the old shows that I grew up having a chance to be on Netflix.”
This is a sentiment that is shared by many, and that is possibly a reason for why the agreement was reached in the first place: To give the community the sense of nostalgia that has been a trend recently.
