The trailer for the newest reboot of the long-standing Scooby-Doo franchise is hitting theaters in 2020. The newest installment is called “Scoob!” and fans of the franchise have varying levels of excitement for the feature film.
“Scooby-Doo” is an American entertainment franchise that originated in the late 1960s. The series follows a group of mystery-solving teenagers, Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, and Velma, and their dog Scooby-Doo.
As of December 2019, there are 43 films, 14 television series, 21 video games, and 33 direct-to-video specials. This large number of adaptations is what keeps the fanbase growing and growing. “I was never really into the movies until I saw the one that came out in 2001,” said a Northwest sophomore.
The most recent feature film was released on March 26, 2004, and was the sequel to “Scooby-Doo”, entitled “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.” The first movie in the two-part series amassed a worldwide gross of $275.7 million. The sequel received significantly less praise and earned less money than its predecessor, but still made $181.5 million worldwide.
A new adaptation has begun production and filming, and the trailer for the new movie was released Nov. 11, 2019. The movie is being produced by Warner Brothers Studios and is set to be released in the summer of 2020.
Others disagree, thinking that the new movie looks promising. Madelyn Kennedy, a Northwest freshman, said, “It looks super cute and I think it’ll be a great way to portray a new storyline for the classic characters.”
So though the characters may be old, many believe the new storyline will be a chance for the characters to shine in cinemas once more.
