The hit franchise Resident Evil is releasing a new installment, Resident Evil Requiem. Fans have been anticipating its release after it was announced during the Summer Game Fest showcase. Fans of Resident Evil believe that this game has the potential to be the best in its franchise, based only on the trailers.
The release of REquiem makes fans wonder, “Should Resident Evil keep going toward the horror direction like its most recent game, or should it go back to its roots in action?” Junior Natelia Leyva argues for a middleground.
“I for sure think they should keep focusing on both,” Natelia explains. “The horror really stood out in this game, especially playing as Grace, but then playing as Leon gives you so much more action. I think it’s a really good strategy to combine them like that, it feels good the way it is.”
Another argued topic is the matter of the camera. Fans debate whether or not the camera should be in first or third person, seeing as the new Resident Evil will give players the choice. Junior Rafael Hernandez argues that they shouldn’t stick to only one.
“I think they should use the first-person camera more if they want to keep going with the horror aspect,” Rafael argues. “For the action-focused games, like the mercenaries game modes, they should probably use third person.”
A matter that has been plaguing the community is the belief that there should be new characters. Many of the original characters have been mostly used in all the Resident Evil games; fans want newer, original characters. Junior Jackson Meiers believes that the series baits fans with its characters.
“I think the franchise can make drastic changes with characters when they need to,” Jackson describes. “But they drag the original characters into the newer games too much for nostalgia bait rather than making new interesting stories like in RE7, which had a new and interesting main character, Ethan Winters.”
