LAS VEGAS, NV—With Vivienne Westwood’s passing on December 29, 2022, Northwest Career and Technical Students both fashion students and enthusiasts look back on the brand.
Vivienne Westwood was an English fashion designer and business woman most known for the revered luxury fashion brand named with her own title. With its unique interpretation of punk and traditional feminine themes through ensuring environmentalism, Vivienne Westwood distinguishes itself amongst other well-known brands.
Betsy Guadarrama, senior fashion student, mentions the brand’s impact on her own fashion choices, “Vivienne Westwood is known for her punk elements so I try to add some punk elements in my own style,” Guadarrama explains. “Learning about this brand was definitely my first step into learning more about the fashion world so I would say that it has,” she adds.
Influencing each individual’s style in fashion is one of the numerous things that Vivienne Westwood has made an impact with.
In the discussion of Vivienne Westwood’s impact, senior fashion student, Alexis Malec expresses their own experience, “ She has been an inspiration for drawings I've created because I included some of her jewelry designs on the people I've drawn, however, I've never taken her fashion designs as inspiration for one of my clothing projects.”
Even when stepping away from the fashion scene, Vivienne Westwood is still a prominent figure in entertainment with other artists taking inspiration from her works.
Senior Elizabeth Delgado, who has an interest in the fashion industry, discusses her appreciation for the brand, “I first became aware of this fashion brand by watching the famous anime called Nana. Nana O’s style was heavily influenced by grunge and punk fashion that Vivienne Westwood is known for.”
