Nicki Minaj has done it again with her sequel album to her 2010 debut breakout album, Pink Friday. With features from Lil Wayne, J. Cole, and Lil Uzi Vert, undoubtedly Minaj has shown her versatility again, the genres in the album ranging from pop to rap to R&B.
Sampling songs like “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper and “Move Your Feet” by Junior Senior, the album is a fun mix of people’s favorite old songs and the trendy kind of music that’s popular now.
“I love Nicki Minaj, I always have and I always will; I practically grew up on her, and seeing her drop a sequel to my favorite album of hers made me very happy,” Daryn Rico, a biomed freshman at NWCTA, responded when asked how she felt about the album and Nicki Minaj’s overall performance as an artist.
Songs like “Super Freaky Girl” and “Everybody (ft. Lil Uzi Vert)” were dropped before the album’s release & were received well by students at NWCTA.
Amaya Atoigue, a freshman at NWCTA, felt the album was just okay.
“‘Everybody’ or ‘Super Freaky Girl’ are the contenders for my favorite song off of the album, those are pretty much the only ones I really listened to multiple times. I listened to them before the album came out, then I actually listened to the album,” Atoigue said.
Not everyone liked Pink Friday 2.
“Off of what I’ve heard of Pink Friday 2, no, I don’t really like the album. It’s very generic and boring to me, there’s really just nothing special about it,” Trinity Sirin, a freshman at NWCTA, said.
While Pink Friday 2 received a lot of love and a lot of hate, it’s undeniable Nicki Minaj is one of the best in her genre.
