With several Marvel characters reappearances in the franchise, fans question what it means for the future of Marvel.
“There's a lot of controversy going on right now about what is or isn’t canon in the MCU right now. I feel like bringing characters from some of Marvel’s shows and other movies automatically approves them as canon - meaning that the multiverse/extra storylines (like other Marvel shows on Netflix) could be canon,” states Alyxa Pinpin (freshman).
Recent releases reveal that the multiverse exists within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as well as the original timeline linked to other Marvel projects, including Matt Murdock and Kingpin from the Daredevil series on Netflix, re-appearing in Spiderman: No Way Home and the Hawkeye series.
“I think the roles are a nice refresher to the Daredevil series. The actors played them well and I enjoyed their acting. I’m probably most interested in the reprise and the controversy or questions that come with it. It brings up a lot of questions about how canon a lot of the MCU tv shows as well as bringing more awareness to the MCU. I also think it shows how much Marvel is starting to listen to their audience because a lot of people have been begging to see these characters (especially in the new Spiderman movie) for a while now,” Pinpin explains.
As Marvel continues with the hype of who will be introduced within the franchise, fans hope to see certain characters from the Marvel comics and theorize what may come through hints left in past projects.
“I think the Spider-Verse may come into play. There’s already some small rumors going around about the spider verse possibly becoming canon in the future. Some of the proof for this can be Cindy Moon - one of Peter’s decathlon classmates from what I remember, and when Peter interrogates Donald Glover’s character in Spiderman Homecoming, he mentions having a nephew and that his name is Miles. These are just small theories but I think it’d be cool if Marvel decided to do more with those characters,” Pinpin continues.
Excitement arises as the MCU grows more and more unpredictable about what will appear or even re-appear in the series of movies.
