Opinions spiral as a result of a new addition to the Dune series. As Dune 2 takes to the big screens and questions arise about the differences between the Dune movies of the past in comparison to the new release, many questions remain about how people feel about how the movie compares to its older counterparts.
“I thought the new Dune movie added on and progressed the story further. I thoroughly enjoyed the new one even more than the first.” Commented Dylan Friedman, a Northwest Career and Technical Academy senior, who commented after being prompted with the question of what he thought of the new addition to the Dune series.
The Dune fanbase is quite a dedicated group of individuals, but most of that fanbase stems from the books, becoming a group of loyal followers of the series before a single movie was ever released.
This begs the question of whether the movies satisfy those who know and love the series as a proxy of the books and who didn’t originate from the big screen.
The books align with the movie, except for character changes for Chani, Jessica, and Liet-Kynes," promptly replied Marlee Troutman. An NWCTA senior that was asked if the movie stood up to the books.
While it's great to know that the Dune fanbase can be satisfied with the movie adding up to the books, one also can’t ignore the opinion of the new fans that entered this fanbase after the movie's release.
Except that it seems most of these new fans are more focused on a certain actor who starred in the movie.
“Timothee Chalamet is my secret long-distance husband. He and I are long-lost lovers, bound by fate.” Dylan commented after being questioned about what they thought of Timmothee Chalamet, the actor who plays the main character, Paul Atreides, in the new Dune movie.
Dune 2 has taken a popular leap in media over the course of the last few months, going all the way to becoming the highest-grossing film of 2024. But is it worthy of being a blockbuster movie?
“Yes, the first one was pretty popular, so I would not be surprised," replied NWCTA senior Elizabeth Fielder when asked their opinion on the question.
