Purpose of Letter: To tell prospective employers and scholarship granters a little more about you
Who should you ask to write the letter? An adult who is NOT in your family and knows you well. This person can be a teacher, employer, church leader, coach, or other close adult.
What is a LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION?
It is a letter, written by some who knows you well, but is NOT directly related to you, that highlights and showcases your strengths, experiences and/or obstacles you have overcome. The letter is designed to recommend YOU for consideration for employment, college acceptance and scholarship opportunities.
Why do I need a LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION?
A letter of recommendation is a requirement for a majority of scholarships you apply to, and can be asked for by some colleges and job opportunities. It is important to begin working on securing at least ONE Letter of Recommendation to use for these purposes, and more.
How do I request one?
Take a look at the doc in the link below. Put together as much of this information as you can, and then email or call a teacher, manager, coach or boss and ask them to use the information you've put together to write you a Letter of Recommendation. They can address the letter to To Whom It May Concern, and they can recommend you for either a specific opportunity (you tell them what that opportunity is) or simply for any opportunity for which you qualify.
