A browser is the program or app you use to access websites.
Examples: Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge, Firefox. (at NVLA most apps work best on Chrome, especially Honorlock and GoGuardian))
Think of it like a car — it’s the vehicle that takes you to different places on the internet.
A tab is a page inside your browser window.
You can have many tabs open at once in the same browser.
Think of tabs like pages in a notebook — you can flip between them without opening a new notebook.
A search engine is a website that helps you find information online.
Examples: Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo. (at NVLA, Google is preferred and works well with CCSD Gmail accounts, which end in @nv.ccsd.net)
Think of it like a librarian — you ask a question, and it points you to the right “books” (websites).
💡 How they work together:
You open a browser → open a tab → go to a search engine to find what you need.
A web browser is a software application that lets you view and interact with web pages. It acts as a window to the internet, displaying content like text, images, videos, and other multimedia. Browsers include Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Duck Duck Go, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge.
For the best all-around function, you should use Google Chrome. Some apps and programs require Chrome such as Honorlock and GoGuardian. If you experience any issues, it is always a good idea to try and troubleshoot it by changing browsers. Firefox is a good choice as well, but remember, you will have to switch over to Chrome to take a quiz that is Honorlocked.
