The Pony Express was established so mail could get from one place to another faster. Lone horsemen would ride between stations at breakneck pace, switching mounts every 10-15 miles and then handing their cargo off to a new courier after 75-100 miles. The relay system allowed mail to crisscross the frontier in record time. To ride on the Pony Express, riders had to take a loyal oath that states as follows, “I do hereby swear, before the Great and Living God, that during my engagement, and while an employee of Russell, Majors and Waddell, I will, under no circumstances, use profane language, that I will drink no intoxicating liquors, that I will not quarrel or fight with any other employee of the firm, and that in every respect I will conduct myself honestly, be faithful to my duties, and so direct all my acts as to win the confidence of my employers, so help me God.” Riders who broke this oath were dismissed without their pay salaries. The Pony Express extended throughout NV, CA, UT, WY, NB, and KA. Specifically, in Nevada, you can visit historical places such as Schell Creek Station, Egan Canyon, Diamond Springs monument, Second Cold Springs Pony Express Station, Fort Churchill State Historic Park, Walley's Hot Springs, and more!
Nelson's Landing (Nelson's Ghost Town) is about 25 miles from Boulder City. it is located in the El Dorado Canyon. This beautiful area is also considered a ghost town. It's one of Nevada's earliest sites. This area is a mix between a junkyard, outdoor art display, and burning man tribute. Nelson's Ghost Town is a popular place for photoshoots, because most people refer to it as a real movie set by the looks of it. While in the area, you can also go on a guided tour. If you're looking for a fun time with friends, Nelson's Landing has a popular cliff jumping site just past the ghost town. It has varying heights, but the main jump is about 60 feet.
