Welcome! My name is Amanda Tapia and I am a 6th grade math teacher as well as the girls basketball coach at Cannon Junior High School. I am very dedicated and passionate about education, have taught for 10 years right here in the Clark County School District, and am a product of the Clark County as well as Nye County school districts.
I was born and raised in the Las Vegas area, graduating in 2002 from Pahrump Valley High School and then continuing my education at UNLV graduating in 2007 with my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I have been married for 7 years and we have two amazing sons Cristiano, 5 and Luka, 2.
When I'm not at work I enjoy coaching my son's soccer team, taking my boys around to as many Las Vegas attractions as possible, and just spending time with my friends and family. When I am at work I am the happiest in my classroom with my students. I have a love for math and really enjoy passing that excitement on to young minds. My teaching style is filled with hands on activities and student collaboration. I know that not every student learns the same or grasps concepts at the same pace as peers, so when a student has that "AHA!" moment of clarity, it reminds me why I chose to become a teacher. I just can't help myself at working hard to become every students' "favorite teacher ever."
