Welcome! My name is Tracee Dickey and I am a fifth grade teacher at O'Roarke. I have been at O'Roarke since we first opened the doors in 2008 and this is my twenty-eighth year of teaching! I have previously taught kindergarten, first, second and fourth grades and am excited to be teaching fifth grade math.
Teaching is my passion and I love researching and learning all about the latest best practices in education. I am a National Board Certified Teacher (I worked hard for that distinction!) and have a degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Literacy Instruction.
I am originally from Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!) but moved to Las Vegas over 25 years ago when my husband, Joe, began his career as an FBI Agent (he's now retired from the FBI and currently owns a consulting and private investigation business). We have been married over 30 years and are blessed with two amazing children, both of whom once attended O'Roarke. My son, Sam, is an accountant in Albuquerque, and my daughter, Ally, is married and an attorney in Las Vegas. I am so proud of my children and spending time with my family is my absolute favorite thing to do! We enjoy our time as 'empty nesters', although we do still have a fur baby, Rory, who rules our home.
When I'm not at school I enjoy exercising outdoors (it's a love/hate relationship), reading, cooking and shopping. Sweets are my weakness, especially brownies and cookies! I am also guilty of stopping by Starbucks at least once a week for breakfast and a Refresher or flavored Iced-coffee. Friday nights are pizza nights (because teaching is exhausting!) and Cafe Rio and Chic-fil-A are my favorite go-to restaurants. I'm a huge Golden Knights fan and love supporting my alma-mater, the University of Oklahoma!
I am so excited to get to know my new group of fifth graders and look forward to my former students stopping by to say 'hello'! Every year I start out missing my old students (and their parents!) but by the end of the year convince myself 'this is my favorite class ever!' The classroom is our home away from home and I want it to be a bright cheery place that is as comfortable as possible for everyone. I welcome parent volunteers and know teaching is a team effort. I can't wait to see what the year brings! Go PRIDE (FYI...that's our mascot, the 'Pride', not the 'Lions')!!!
