Requirements to SASH in Vocal Music
Students will be awarded letters based on an accumulation of points; a minimum of 20 points must be earned. Students can letter in choir each year that they are in the program but the points are awarded yearly. POINTS ACCUMULATE OVER ONE YEAR. THEY DO NOT “ROLL OVER” INTO THE NEXT YEAR. It is the responsibility of the student to keep track of his/her individual points totals. A form will be made available to students at the end of the year to apply for a SASH. IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A SASH, STUDENTS MUST HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED CHOIR WITH A GRADE OF A “B” OR HIGHER (SEMESTER GRADE AVERAGE).
Students will be responsible to buy their SASH - $20.00 to the school banker
Points are awarded on the following basis
• 5 POINTS:
Participation in choir with a grade of “B” or higher EVERY quarter participated***
Successfully complete CCSD Honor Choir
Successfully complete Nevada All-State Choir
Receive straight A’s (per quarter)
• 4 POINTS:
Serve as a section leader, student conductor or vocal department officer
Taking private lessons for the given school year. Students must take regularly scheduled weekly/monthly lessons for a minimum of one semester to qualify for these points and must provide written proof from the instructor.
Participation in the CCSD Solo & Ensemble with a rating of 1 or 2
Participation in the All-State Solo & Ensemble with a rating of 1 or 2
• 3 POINTS:
Participation in the school musical. Students must attend all rehearsals.
Participation in an approved community-performing ensemble
• 2 POINTS:
Attend another DSA MUSIC DEPARTMENT concert. (Different from make-up work, signed by department teacher, stay for entire concert, turn-in ticket/program)
Audition for CCSD Honor Choir
Audition for Nevada All-State Choir
Solo participation in the Spring Concert (if applicable)
Four-Year Choir Medallion
That DSA vocal department has many students who participate in the vocal program for 4 years. A special medallion is given to those choir students who were enrolled in the DSA choir for 4 years. These students must be *upstanding members of the vocal department for all four years and have made a considerable effort to be outstanding leaders, musicians and people. Recipients of the medallion will be determined by the director. They will receive the medallion at the choir banquet or on senior day and it may be worn at graduation.
***Upstanding members - attend all concerts, no behavior infractions, and no action on their part that will bring disgrace to the DSA vocal program.
Students who earn this medal will receive it FREE OF CHARGE - $
Senior CORDS
Senior cords are available by ALL senior choir members who have been *upstanding members of the vocal department during their senior year. (This will be determined by the director). All forms for the cords will be collected in April and they will be distributed at a Vocal Dept. event.
