Be Impeccable With Your Word Reflection
Second Agreement Reflection
Utilizing evidence and citation formats
The two assignments above required individuals to reflect and answer a set of questions pertaining to a certain portion of "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz.
Following the reading of both the First Agreement and the Second Agreement, I was tasked with a written reflection for both portions of the book. My objective with this writing was to connect what I learned from reading the book to my daily life. In both assignments, I was required to cite specific pieces from the text. Thus, I made sure to support my commentary by pulling certain pieces of text without any specific citation format. For instance, in Be Impeccable with Your Word Reflection, I added, "As Ruiz mentions, 'But like a sword with two edges, your word can create the most beautiful dream, or your word can destroy everything around you.'" From this, I supported my thought of being mindful of the integrity of the words that I choose to use. Additionally, in Second Agreement Reflection, I mentioned, "Ruiz points out, 'Part of the mind is speaking, and the other part is listening. It is a big problem when a thousand parts of your mind are all speaking at the same time.'“ Pulling from this specific piece of text allowed me to further elaborate on self-detachment from others. The process that I used to consider appropriate forms of evidence was deciding what specific portions of the text I wanted to use. It was imperative that the chosen pieces of text harmonized with the intended meaning of my words and were cohesive to the overarching context of the book. Lastly, I did not opt to use a citation format as I believed my citation format was effective. However, I now realize that adhering to MLA format would have been more fitting as the assignment explicitly requires MLA. In short, although I grappled the difficulties with having a proper citation format, the experience was invaluable as I learned a crucial skill set. I now can integrate proper citation formats such as MLA into my future writings, strengthening my ability to substantiate my claims with valid pieces of evidence.
