I grew up on the east coast in West Babylon, New York on Long Island. It was a wonderful place to grow up! Unfortunately, I don't have much family still living there, so I have not been back to visit in a few years. I hope when my children are older, I get to take them back east to show them the beaches and towns I love so much.
It is my goal to not only help my students learn and succeed in class, but also for them to enjoy learning about science and why it is so important. The reason I became a science teacher is not just because I love and enjoy science, but because I had an amazing high school Biology teacher who inspired me to do so when I was just a student back in high school.
I attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2006. I taught science for a year in New York before moving to Nevada in the summer of 2007. I came to Las Vegas to work at Escobedo Middle School, a new school that was just opening. It was an honor for me to open up a new school in the Clark County School District. I taught 8th grade physical science at Escobedo for two years before taking a job closer to my home near Coronado in 2009. I completed my Masters of Education in Secondary Science at UNLV during the summer of 2013. I continually strive to implement best practices for science education and gain new knowledge to better my students' experiences in the classroom.
My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. I met my husband, Nic, while we were both teaching at Coronado in the science department. We've been happily married since 2011. We have two beautiful children; our son, Greyson, who was born in October of 2013, and our daughter, Sloane, who was born in March of 2016. Together, we enjoy going for walks and hikes, playing outside, traveling to new places and visiting family. In my spare time I also enjoy cooking, baking, crafting, decorating, and watching movies, television, and football.
Coronado High School continues to be an excellent place to learn and work and I feel confident that it is going to be another awesome school year!
