This assignment was very interesting and simple. I reused some of the shots that has gotten accepted before and I played around with the black and white adjustment to see if the pictures can be somewhat more "better". Basically Monochrome imaging is where you change your colored pictures into a grayscale, so it look likes black and white. What I really like about this project is that it helps me understand deeper into my photos and how each photo can be improved in many different ways.
The photo of Zoe on the left is just a normal picture of her. Her phone in her hand is kind of distracting because of its bright color pink. I also don't like the orange building behind her because it stands out to much. There's not much going on in this this picture. There's a lot of different bright colors and just distract the main focus of the picture.
In the black and white version, it takes away all of the bright colors I mentioned earlier and changed it into a more interesting picture. The bright orange building is hardly noticeable and her phone doesn't take away from the main emphasis. Her leather jacket is more define and it looks more authentic. What I really like is her hair because it look sleek and more noticeable. All of the tiny dirt and plants behind her is also taken away, where all you really see is the emphasis.
The photo on the left has a lot of bright colors and it's hard to really focus on one thing because of the different patterns and colors. I also notice, within the shadows of the pieces, you can see little reflection of the sun. I think it's a little to distracting, and I don't see the point of it.
The black and white version is much better because you can see more detail of the grinder done to the surface of the metal piece. All of the mixed colors are abandoned and its easier to understand what's going on. The shadow I mentioned earlier are much more darker and it brings out the whole picture its self. Those small reflections are hardly noticeable at all. Overall I think the black and white version just brings out the pattern and the shadow of the pictures.
The colored picture is a good picture, but there's some aspect of it that I don't like. The green color of the bushes are too distracting from the water bottle. The orange building behind the bottle is distraction as well. The tree behind the arm is noticeable and I don't like how it is standing there. I also don't like how the sleeve of the arm is the color black because it's a weird color to have is such a "natural" setting. The sun shining on the water is just a little to bright for my liking.
The black and white version has a much better aspect than the colored one. All of the distracting colors are taken away. The tree behind the arm isn't noticeable to point where it stands out. The black arm sleeve matches with the black and white setting, so the color make sense with the background. What really brings out the picture is the water bottle and the water spilling out. It shows as if the bottle is glowing, as well with the water. One thing i notice shortly after editing to black and white is the sunspot on the upper right hand of the picture. You can barely see it in the colored picture, and with the monochrome one, you can see it clearly. Overall its a good photo that has a lot of amazing aspect in monochrome version.
